Your Scalp Questions, Answered

By Crown Affair

Our newest launch, The Cleansing Scrub, is finally live. Last week we gathered all your questions about this Bolivian Pink Salt shampoo, how to use it, and what makes it so special. Here are our answers—we’re so excited to share this with you.

- What makes a scrub different from a regular shampoo—why should I use it instead?

Unlike a typical shampoo, The Cleansing Scrub is a color-safe formula made with Bolivian Pink Salt, which adds the scrub element and gives it a luxuriously whipped texture. The extra fine granules are packed with nutrients and create a satisfying yet gentle exfoliating experience for a deeper, richer cleanse targeted to the scalp and roots. This scrub is also made for less frequent use than your typical shampoo; about once a week should maintain nicely.

- What is the proper way to exfoliate my scalp?

Gentle motions are the key to proper exfoliation: After wetting your hair, apply a small scoop of The Cleansing Scrub to your scalp. Mix with water to emulsify and create a rich, foaming lather. Using the pads of your fingers, gently massage the scrub into your scalp using small, circular motions to lift dead skin and debris for comfort and balance, then rinse thoroughly.

- What other products pair well with The Cleansing Scrub?

The Cleansing Scrub pairs perfectly with our beloved Renewal Mask. This ultimate deep cleansing and moisturizing in-shower duo can be incorporated into your ritual weekly for the ultimate balance—a healthy scalp and hydrated strands.

- Is The Cleansing Scrub safe to use on colored hair?

Yes! The Cleansing Scrub has been tested on colored hair and is completely safe to use. It is formulated with a Coconut Surfactant System: an incredibly gentle, non-stripping cleansing agent which is safe for both colored hair and sensitive skin and hair.

- Will a scrub help with dry scalp/flaking?

Using The Cleansing Scrub to exfoliate your scalp in shower can help remove any extra dead skin, buildup and debris, leaving your scalp refreshed and balanced. If your dry scalp is severe, we always recommend double checking with a doctor or medical professional before using.

- Should I use a scrub in place of regular shampoo? Can you use them together?

The Cleansing Scrub is a deeply exfoliating scalp treatment that provides an extra deep clean in shower and can be swapped for your regular shampoo once a week. However, you know your hair best, and you can use both for the cleanest cleanse possible.

- How often should I use a scrub?

You can swap out The Cleansing Scrub for your regular shampoo once a week (or as needed).

- How do I incorporate this product into my existing routine?

The Cleansing Scrub can take the place of The Ritual Shampoo (or any shampoo) once a week: It should be the first product used in shower on freshly wet hair. Apply to your scalp only—it will cleanse strands as you wash it out, just like regular shampoo. Follow up with The Renewal Mask or Ritual Conditioner to moisturize and hydrate strands.

- Will the salt texture be rough on my skin?

Our formula is made using extra fine granules for a gentle, non-abrasive exfoliation that penetrates through to the scalp and rinses away completely with almost no effort at all.

- What are the after effects of The Cleansing Scrub?

The Cleansing Scrub gently exfoliates your scalp without stripping, leaving your scalp feeling refreshed, completely cleansed and balanced. In turn, it lifts your roots for aerated, bouncy volume and a silky-soft sensation.

- Would you recommend the scrub for psoriasis?

While The Cleansing Scrub is great for exfoliating your scalp and lifting dead skin, buildup and debris, we always recommend double checking with a dermatologist or medical professional to see what’s best for specific conditions like Psoriasis.

- What is the ingredients list?

The full ingredient list can be found on the product page. The two key ingredients are Bolivian Pink Salt: a natural, hand-harvested exfoliant that gently cleanses to remove buildup, debris, and dead skin; and a coconut-based surfactant system: a gentle, eco-friendly cleansing agent with a highly foaming lather.
